State Five

When a gas of bosons is cooled below a critical temperature, the particles abandon their separate identities and occupy a single, coherent quantum state. The whole behaves as one.

Endurance is not the absence of change. It is the survival of identity through change. A river is older than the water in it.

To compound across generations is not to live forever. It is to plant what we will not harvest, to fund what we will not see completed, and to hand forward a state of the world more coherent than the one we inherited.

This for us is the meaning of State Five.
